Testing your skills in a real business project…
Business-KIT has been set up in partnership between local business support organisations and participating Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) to enable students to test their new found knowledge in real business situations, thus gaining invaluable experience while helping a local business achieve its dreams.
What are the benefits?
Access to a pool of local Small/Medium sized Enterprises, all of whom require help in aligning their businesses to take full advantage of new opportunities that have been documented with the support of an impartial Business Support Advisor
Valuable CV supporting material for future employment opportunities, balancing the academic theory with practical experience
All projects will receive the support of a Business Support advisor and a HEI Lecturer
Eligible Courses
Any student enrolled at a Higher Education Institute that has registered with the scheme can apply
Students applying from courses that have already linked to the Business-KIT service will have their CV’s approved by a course Tutor
Students applications received from courses / Institutes not already linked to the scheme are eligible and the Project Manager will make direct contact with the relevant course tutor to gain CV approval
Placements can be project based around a particular unit, module or dissertation or can be part of a formal placement year, STEP or KTP scheme
What are the payments?
Each course from each HEI will be able to set its own cost with advice from a project manager. The fees gained from the SME customers can be used by the University to pay modest student expenses and to invest in the resources of the participating school
If applicable, payments will be made upon a successful conclusion of the project
What next?
Create a login account (or login if you have already created an account)
Create your CV using our CV Builder
Submit the CV for approval (please note that it will not appear on the register until approved and your personal details will be kept anonymous)
The Project Manager will contact your Course Tutor / School to approve the listing and provide advice on the next steps to access the second level of the site
You will be able to review more detailed SME listings and select three Projects that match your skills/knowledge at any one time
You will be notified by e-mail of any businesses that show an interest in your CV
Once mutual interest is shown, the Project Manager will contact all parties to set up an initial meeting
